Year-old child died in Adygea from West Nile
Adygea recorded the first death from West Nile, reports "Interfax". "It was established that the two-year boy was admitted to hospital with a severe form of the disease, and died from complications of West Nile virus," – said the agency spokesman for the regional management of Rospotrebnadzor.
Interviewee noted that this was the first infant death in Adygea from West Nile Virus. This summer, the virus in the country fell ill two children, one of them, the doctors were able to save. "Found that children with fever contracted in Adygea. Diseases among adults were observed," – said the representative of Rospotrebnadzor.
Recently, the head of Rospotrebnadzor Gennady Onishchenko urged regional authorities to strengthen the fight against mosquitoes to prevent outbreaks of West Nile fever. Two seats of fever reported in August in the Volgograd and Astrakhan regions. "The natural reservoir for the virus, birds and rodents. Become infected through blood – this is more of an exotic region. Basis of transmission is through the bite of female mosquitoes of the genus Kuleks (Culex)", – said Onishchenko. He added that the "most alarming" months are August and September.
Also this week, it was reported that, in the Volgograd region, as of August 20 reported 85 cases of West Nile fever, two of them resulted in death.
