The flu shot: who needs it?

Every year, millions of Ukrainians suffer seasonal flu. Rush hour all colds – autumn and winter, when the temperature drops, and immunity is not actively cope with the virus.
Despite the fact that acute respiratory disease may be caused by different strains of the virus, however, is very similar to the disease symptoms when infected with all types of pathogens. Most often, the patient on the ARD complains of headache, fever, runny nose, sore throat and other symptoms.
Vaccine against infections
An effective way to prevent the onset of multiple infections (including influenza) is vaccination. Once opened the first vaccine doctors managed to save hundreds of millions of lives. And today, the vaccine remains a major preventive measure in the fight against infectious diseases, especially the flu virus against which annual mass vaccinated millions.
How is the vaccine? Vaccine – this is known, the attenuated viral material. That is, a person is introduced infectious agent that is unable to replicate in the body. However, the attenuated virus in the vaccine material is the same set of proteins as the active virus. Therefore, the human immune system (ie – cell lymphocytes) starts to produce antibodies against the virus.
When are vaccinated?
The best time for a flu shot, it’s September-November, as it was at this period is the height of the flu epidemic. Too early to make a vaccine is not recommended, because high levels of antibodies in the blood is kept for several months, after which – the amount of antibodies reduced. It may happen that at the beginning of the epidemic in the blood will be a low amount of antibodies.
Can be grafted and after will start an epidemic. Head of the department of viral infections of the Institute of Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases, MD Alla Mironenko said that the vaccine, made during an epidemic is not dangerous to human health. – If you, for example, will plant today and tomorrow pick up an infection, the course of the disease the vaccine is not worse.
