Researchers are one step away from a universal cancer therapy
Oncology company Vaxil Biotheraputics and Tel Aviv University have developed a vaccine that is able to "train" the body so that it is itself and destroy cancer cells, writes The Telegraph. This is a new approach that focuses on the manipulation of molecules present in 90% of cancers. This makes treatment almost universal.
Preliminary findings are: a means of initiating an immune response and reduces the prevalence of cancer. Usually the cancer can sneak past the immune system. According to experts, a vaccine can fight with small tumors.
Stands at the center of the molecule MUC1, is present in large amounts on the surface of cancer cells and helps cancer cells grow. It can be used to make visible to the immune system cancer. The vaccine, just contains a small portion of the molecule.
If further test development are successful, the vaccine market, appointed already ill people, there will be a period of six years. At the moment, the development of 10 patients tested at the Hadassah Medical Center with multiple myeloma. Seven of them developed a strong immunity against cancer. Three people have completely got rid of the disease.
