Oral flu vaccine will replace the painful vaccination
Oral flu vaccine may very soon completely replace the standard vaccinations. Scientists have confirmed that the oral form of the vaccine is more effective, according to ABC News.
Employees of the National Institute of Korean vaccine found that the introduction of a specific antigen – matrix protein 2 – Influenza in the area under the tongue in the mouse allows the animal to confront a number of viruses, including avian and swine flu.
Earlier it was already known that the matrix protein 2 (M2) protects the vast majority of influenza strains. So it is included in the regular vaccine, administered by injection. However, the protein in such a vaccine does not strengthen the immune system of the lungs. But he did it when administered orally.
But flu strains mutate every year. Despite this, the M2 protein remains the same for most viruses. And, then, really a universal vaccine.
By the way, scientists have developed a vaccine called FluMist. This is a nasal spray. In contrast to the oral vaccine, FluMist is a live attenuated virus that is administered through the nose. In the same oral vaccine contains only part of the virus.
