In the smallpox vaccine discovered unusual properties
First time in history could save mankind from smallpox. Now it offers hope for getting rid of the cancer. Studies have shown that vaccination against smallpox can double the life expectancy of people with advanced liver cancer, reports New Scientist.
The vaccine contains a live virus Vaccinia. It was he particularly affects the tumor. The virus prefers to infect cancer cells, because they disable the antiviral protein interferon and include signaling molecules that attract Vaccinia.
American company Jennerex Biotherapeutics has developed two versions of the live virus. One version makes a special enzyme concentration increased in cancer cells but not in normal ones. The second leads to the production version of the protein that attracts immune system attacks itself.
Tests performed on 30 patients with late-stage development of hepatocellular carcinoma, proved that the vaccine in high doses allows a person to live an average of 14 months. A small dose – seven months. Scientists believe that the vaccine will work in the early stages of cancer development. Jennerex also plans to test it on colorectal cancer.
