Create a unique vaccine against tuberculosis
New vaccine to deal with tuberculosis before and after infection has been developed by scientists from the Danish Statens Serum Institute in Copenhagen. It guarantees protection for many years, reports BBC. This development can turn modern medicine, because the problem of tuberculosis is extremely acute in the present, especially in developing countries. While the vaccine has only been tested on animals, but the results give us confidence in its effectiveness.
Known: only 5% of cases of infection after the person has symptoms (cough, chest pain). The fact is that, once in the body, the bacteria that cause the disease, immediately changes the characteristic chemical features, and exists in a latent form. Only 10% of patients with bacteria leads to the development of acute symptoms.
Modern vaccines such as BCG work if they give up contact with the bacteria. They do not prevent infection, but give the symptoms appear and grow into a dangerous form of infection of the disease. But once the bacterium is passed in a latent form, the vaccine does not work on it. The new vaccine solves this problem.
It combines proteins that trigger an immune response and the active and the passive form of tuberculosis. Thus, the design protects against initial infection and does not allow her to move into an active form of the disease, when a person becomes extremely dangerous to others.
